A Guide To Syrinx
ORIGIN OF SYRINX
When the Void was shattered and the Elements broke free, they came together to form Tyrra. As they collided, each broke away and fell unpolluted onto Tyrra, where the largest pieces hit, islands rose up from the sea, manifesting into the host element.
Where Death fell, Tyrra died.
New species evolved before the element of Life.
Lava and flame emerged in the wake of Fire.
Water forced solid Tyrra beneath its’ deluge.
From these elements, Syrinx was born and founded a nation. Harnessing the powers of both Earth and Sky, he built great citadels to house the fallen Elements and guarded over them for one hundred years.
So it was that Cygnus was born.
The beings of Life offered the Child his form and being.
Those of Light filled the Child’s eyes with colors and the wonder of Tyrra.
Beings of Air offered him the ability to breath in the smells of the land and sea.
The peoples of Reason gave the Child his wisdom and the ability to discern right from wrong.
Beings of Order brought science and laws to give structure to the Child.
The followers of Death begat the Child mortality, for Death’s beings wanted everything from the Child.
The Chaotic ones then corrupted his spirit to so that the Child would not rest after Death took their prize.
THE GATHERING OF THE CITY STATES
Legends say that Gypsies first came to Syrinx, when the sea was much lower, over a land bridge. The Barbarians claim they landed on the islands first with their long boats.
What people landed first matters not.
All found a land ripe with resources. As other people learned of the riches found on the islands, they started to come in droves. The Citadels were uncovered and people built cities around them, influenced by the Element they represented.
City-States began to form, each influenced by the Element that was represented in the ancient Citadels. While the psyche of the settlers seemed to be drawn to the Element housed within the citadels on these islands, the island of Cygnus seemed to draw all sorts of races and peoples.
It was here that the Citadel of Syrinx was uncovered and along with it the tablets depicting the history of the islands, the Hero, and the Child. The island Cygnus became a capital where representatives of all the City-States would gather every year as the tide of the waters changed. It was at this time, known as the Trade Tides, when the land bridges emerged, that these representatives would come to discuss business, do trade, and other matters of import. In time, they became known as the Keepers of Syrinx. They became the Magistrates of the lands.
